The Agricultural Sector Coordination Unit (ASCU) is the secretariat of ten ministries addressing agriculture and rural development. Their main development challenges are ensuring food security, reducing poverty and unemployment, and transforming agriculture from subsistence to farming as a business. 
Kenya signed the African Union and NEPAD - Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Compact in Nairobi on 24 July 2010.
