Strategy for Revitalizing Agriculture

The SRA was approved in 2004 as the agricultural sectors' response to the Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth and Employment Creation (ERS-WEC), Kenya's economic management blueprint for the period 2003-2007.

ASCU Team

ASCU staffing includes long term advisors and short term high level technical assistance. To address the fast track interventions of the SRA, six thematic working groups (TWGs) were formulated. Membership of the TWGs include representatives of the private sector and non-governmental organizations

The Agricultural Sector Coordination Unit

The agricultural sector coordination unit (ASCU) is an inter-ministerial coordination committee that facilitates the implementation of the Strategy for Revitalizing Agriculture (SRA) in Kenya. ASCU was established in 2005 in order to address the fragmentation of responsibilities between the several agriculture and rural development-related ministries tasked with implementing the SRA. .

Implementation Framework
At the national level, a National Forum of Stakeholders in the sector is organized regularly by the ministries and stakeholders. It is the highest decision making organ and it provides a platform for reviewing progress in the implementation of the strategy and the extent to which its objectives are being achieved.

ASCU Achievements
To date, ASCU is proud of the following achievements: More than 130 pieces of legislation touching on the Agricultural Sector have been analyzed as a basis for harmonized legislation for Kenyan Agriculture.
